Dr. Suminda Welagedara is a highly accomplished senior general physician with extensive international experience and recognised expertise in Internal Medicine. He graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he gained valuable early clinical exposure, particularly in tropical medicine. In 2006, he relocated to Australia to further advance his medical career, and in 2009 he obtained registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the United Kingdom.
In Australia, Dr. Welagedara completed advanced physician training and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2016. He also holds a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP- UK), along with a Specialty Certificate in Acute Medicine. In addition, he was elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians, reflecting his strong commitment to continuing professional development and clinical excellence.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Welagedara is deeply engaged in medical education. He is actively engaged in training Basic and advanced Physician trainees, residents, medical students and nursing staff. He serves as a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University and holds an Honorary Adjunct Associate Professorship at Bond University. He is also an active Clinical Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ clinical examinations.
Dr. Welagedara currently practises as a General Physician at Gold Coast Private Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. He welcomes referrals for inpatient assessment and management across the full spectrum of general medicine, providing expert care for patients with complex and acute medical conditions requiring hospital-based treatment. He also consults with outpatients at Pacific Cardiology (Nerang) and Doctors at Coomera Central (Upper Coomera).

He obtained Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP UK) in 2012 and successfully completed the Specialty Certificate Examination in Endocrinology and Diabetes through the Royal College of Physicians UK in 2014.
Dr Al-Saffi has accumulated extensive clinical experience in General Medicine across a wide range of complex medical conditions. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Adult Internal Medicine in 2018.
Dr Al-Saffi has worked with Queensland Health for several years, managing a high volume of acute medical presentations. He joined Gold Coast Health in 2021 as a General Medicine specialist. He currently practices at Gold Coast Private Hospital, where he accepts referrals for emergency admissions, inpatient consultations, and peri-operative medical care.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Al-Saffi holds senior academic appointments as a Lecturer at both the University of Queensland and Griffith University, contributing to the education and training of future healthcare professionals.
